Photo Rules
Photos make BritSquares personal and interesting. These rules help keep uploads and optional photo-location pins lawful, relevant and respectful.
Last updated: 21 August 2026Use photos you have the right to share
Upload your own photographs or images you are authorised to use. Do not copy images from websites, social media or other sources unless you have permission or another valid legal basis to use them.
Keep photos relevant
Photos should have a reasonable connection to the square, its surroundings, a visit, a local story or the claimant’s experience of that location.
Photo-location pins are optional
You can choose to mark where inside your BritSquare a photo was taken. The pin is constrained to the claimed square and is only shown publicly with an approved photo. Do not use a pin to expose a private home, sensitive site or another person’s confidential location.
Respect privacy
Avoid uploading images that expose private information such as documents, addresses linked to vulnerable people, vehicle keys, access codes or other sensitive details. Take particular care with identifiable children and people in private settings.
No sexual or exploitative content
Sexually explicit content, sexual exploitation and sexualised images of minors are not permitted.
No graphic or dangerous material
Do not upload gratuitously graphic violence, credible threats or material intended to encourage serious harmful or illegal behaviour.
Do not trespass for a photo
A BritSquare claim gives no physical access rights. Never enter private land, restricted areas or unsafe locations simply to obtain a photograph or place a photo-location pin.
You never need to stand inside a square, cross a boundary, enter a road, climb a structure or approach livestock to prove a digital claim.
Moderation
Uploads may be held for review, automatically screened, removed or restricted if they appear to breach these rules, our Community Guidelines or applicable law. Approved photos can then be viewed publicly, including in the full-screen photo viewer.
